Tampa Bay Fishing

Report Date: January 27, 2010

Today we started out with sheepshead around the structures. We had a slow start but as soon as we repositioned the boat into some different structure it was sheepshead on! They stayed consistent eating barnacles on a small hook until we tired of them. The tide got high enough for me to fish lower Tampa Bay in the shallows so we took a little boat ride to a flat where I usually see redfish and nice trout. We got there and had a difficult time finding the reds but while I was poling the skiff I saw what I thought were tails popping out of the water behind us. Turns out when I poled the skiff closer we had a good size school of jumbo sized black drum. We pulled a couple fish from the school and had a great time with them and then called it a day. The fish were released unharmed to fight another day.
